About the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
Drivers licenses and vehicle registration are
handled by state governments except Hawaii where counties
perform DMV functions. In DC, the DMV is part of the city
government. The structure of the DMV as well as
the name of the agency handling the functions vary between
states. For instance, in Illinois, Maine, and Michigan,
the Secretary of State is in charge of issuing driver’s
licenses. |
